Scripture Read – Romans 1-2

Nugget Romans 1:16-17

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, ‘The one who is righteous will live by faith.’”

Devotional thought: Paul exhorts us to believe, to have faith, to receive and live out the righteousness that only God can reveal, that only God can share. Later in chapter 1 he tells us the result of those who do “not see fit to acknowledge God”: they are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice, envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious, foolish, faithless, heartless, and ruthless, now that’s a list to stay off of. What a powerful way to end a week that has been full of reminders and reasons to be faithful, to be obedient, to in essence be holy, because God is Holy.
