Scripture Read Psalms 33-35

Nugget Psalm 34:4, 17-18, 22

“I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all fears. … When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. … The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.”

Devotional thought: In the Wesley Study Bible Psalm 34 is entitled, “Praise for Deliverance from Trouble”. What an appropriate thought for all of us sinners as we journey through Lent. By our sins we are all in trouble, by others sins we are persecuted. Faith in God; that God is who He says He is, and does what He promises to do, gives us confidence to approach God. When we do, when we cry for help, ask for forgiveness, God answers, delivers, rescues, saves, redeems and provides refuge. Good News for a hurting people! No wonder the Psalmist says, “I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1) Let’s come together, as the people of God, in that cry of praise. Let’s be a community of praise and thanksgiving!
