Scripture Nugget 3.24.2016

Yesterday's scripture is from Judges, not Joshua - I apologize if I confused you.....

“The angel of the LORD appeared to him (Gideon) and said to him, ‘The LORD is with you, you mighty warrior.’ Gideon answered him, ‘But sir, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us?’ … Then the LORD turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian; I hereby commission you.’ He responded, ‘But sir, how can I deliver Israel?’ … The LORD Said to him, ‘But I will be with you, and you shall strike down the Midianites, every one of them.’ Then he said to him, ‘If now I have found favor with you, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me.’ …” Judges 6:12-13b, 14-15a, 16-17

It’s Maundy Thursday, the day we remember our Lord’s Last Supper with his disciples and receiving a new command – to love one another as Jesus loves us. On this day, deep in Lent, within eyesight of the cross of Good Friday and the empty tomb of Easter morning do I/we need a sign? Do I “hide” within the busyness of serving 2 congregations? Do I recognize the power that is shared by God in God’s calling and sending me? Do I continually ask for a sign to confirm or do I move in faith? Mighty Warriors of God move in the Lord’s presence, assured the Lord is with them. God’s presence is all the sign they require. O Lord you command us to love one another as you love, to serve as you serve – may I do so faithfully, may Mighty Warrior of God be a serious name for me not a sarcastic label.
